I have taught in a
few different schools in Los Angeles and Palisades area. If you are interested
in bringing Yoga to your school, please contact me.
I have worked with children 3 years of age through
high school. So far my experiences have been so wonderful! I have seen so much
improvement in the children's practice and continued interest as the class moves
along through the year.
It is a very rewarding experience.
Yoga meets all public school physical education standards (click here).
More than a sport or physical fitness program, Yoga sets a life-long foundation
for well being. The postures require students to navigate and negotiate
challenges within their own body and mind, the same process of focus and
attention can be applied to other challenges at home, at school and beyond.
It is a way of life that is fun and challenging and is aimed at problem
solving and achievement.
Case studies suggest that Yoga can play an important role in reducing
stress, preventing illness and aiding in the cure of disease. It increases
strength, flexibility, balance, concentration, self-awareness and control.
It has been known to help children with ADD and ADHD.
The core yoga system offers age appropriate exercises. For example, younger
children (3-5 years old) might engage in games that build confidence and
self-awareness. Story telling which the children act out in various Yoga
postures. There are postures that are done in pairs, encouraging interaction.
Simple exercises like forward and backward bending, keep the digestive
system working well and the spine flexible. As students get older, the
postures advance becoming more sophisticated and intense. For all students,
of all levels, Yoga helps boost self-esteem and teaches how to release
energy in a positive way.
